Oh man, I was one of those who asked for a longer route, but I’m not sure I can handle 120km yet! I better start training now.

I hope there will be enough BBQ food remainder for those stragglers coming in late from the long route this year!

It’s a shame this falls on the same day as Greg’s Ride in Milton, as it did last year (http://www.sharetheroad.ca/gregs-ride-s11709). However, the 120km sounds tempting…

Can an e-scooter (electric bike) join the tour?

  • Eleanor Foss

If an e-bike can join the tour, would there be a charging facility at the end of the ride at Streetsville park?

  • Hello Eleanor,
YES, e-bikes are allowed on the tour! MCAC would love to see e-bikes out there. I’ll bring this back to the committee to discuss, but here is what is happening as far as I have seen it:
    - The City of Mississauga is proposing a by-law that allows e-bikes up to 40Kg on the park trails. That weight is the e-bike only (not including the rider). I’m would think this by-law to pass sometime this summer. Note that currently Mississauga doesn’t officially allow e-bikes on park trails. Park trail regulation is a municipality task, not provincial. So, this is good news for e-bike cyclists in Mississauga. Note that the province defines an e-bike with a maximum weight of 120Kg. The 40Kg maximum for park trails is the only change in the complete provincial definition of what qualifies as an e-bike – see http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/emerging/e-bike-faq.shtml
    - Plug-ins for charging e-bikes at the start/finish point: You bring up a good point. I will let MCAC know about this to see if the request can be accommodated.

Thanks Allan for your prompt response But my bike is more an e-scooter weighing 175 lbs.
Can I still join the Tour and if so what do I have to do and is there any charging places?

  • Eleanor,
How many kilometres can your e-bike[scooter] go without a charge? Are you up to a 120km ride? We are planning a longer route for the on-road cyclists. The official routes aren’t ratified yet, but perhaps we could help you find a short cut-back variation on the road-only route if your e-bike can’t make the full 120km distance on one charge.

  • Eleanor Foss

I’ve been told they will go 50 klm’s on a charge so I wouldn’t want to push my luck. I’ve only had it for 3 weeks.
Do you have any 25 or 30 klm rides.? I think I should start out small, But I sure would like to join in. I know of a few other people that have the same style bike that would like to have a joint ride.

I was wondering if in the 60 Km route there will be gravel?, and also if the event would be on sidewalks?. I ask because I was planning on using my urban bike, but if there is a lot of sidewalk change and even gravel I would have to use my mountain bike. Thank you!

  • Jeanne

I was wondering if a road bike is appropriate for this ride, it doesn’t fair well on gravel paths. Thank you

  • Henry

    @ Jeanne:

According to the draft route maps posted, the short route would be all asphalt.
The long route would be mostly asphalt as well. The only exception is Culham Trail from North of Britannia to Church St. I don’t think it’s too much of a problem though as long as you watch out for loose gravel areas.

There is no 120km route posted yet. Does anyone know when that might happen?

Mandatory Waiver of Liability …When will this be ready on-line to complete & send.

    Thanks

  • The city has provided Mississauga Cycling with their new waiver. Expect it to be posted by the end of today. They have taken out the emergency and other contact information that is important for us to have on hand for the event so we’re looking into an alternate way to collect that information for those that have already registered.

  • Although the 120km 90km route hasn’t been fully ratified, it will be all paved as many road bikes with narrow tires would be expected for that route. The 25km is pretty much all paved so that would be a suitable option as well. The 60km is the “signature” route that will have the most participants. The 60k route goes off the paved roads at times, but is always at least on a well-maintained packed-gravel/limestone trail. So don’t expect to be sent down a single-track MTB track with stumps, gullies, and mud slides (any of those might be found off the route for those interested but use at your own risk). So to summarize, those interested in paved-only routes should consider the 25km or the 120km routes.

Will they be selling new cycling jerseys this year?
    Thanks

  • Eleanor Foss

    Any e-bikes been invited?
Any charging stations in any of your parks?

  • Eleanor Foss

These bike routes need to be connected together! Please.that would be wonderful

  • In short: No. I think we want to wait until the inventory is cleared of the original cycling jerseys still available at cost and online. We are open to getting a new design if there is enough demand for new ones. Now that the Tour de Mississauga is becoming a flagship event, I could see MCAC looking into creating a jersey that showcases the event. Another option would be a good quality “technical tee” which is a general athletic t-shirt made with ‘wicking’ fabric, yet less expensive.

  • Here’s a suggestion for the 100 km route. I’m assuming that the previous route was taken down because most of it was outside of Mississauga. This one is entirely in Mississauga. http://schwyz.no-ip.org/osm/tour-suggestion.html
