Smart Commute Mississauga has planned what looks to be the best Bike To Work Day yet in Mississauga. Mississauga Cycling is proud to play an active role in supporting this meaningful and fun event. Everyone who registers can win prizes and those who join us on our 5.3km ride from Riverwood Park will enjoy a FREE BREAKFAST at the Living Arts Centre.

Register at the Smart Commute Mississauga web site to win prizes just by biking to work

An interesting component of Bike To Work Day is the Corporate Leaders Challenge which encourages CEOs, managers, and team leaders/supervisors to cycle to work and encourage their staff to do the same. Leaders will have a chance to win a free half-page ad in the Toronto Star which features their Bike To Work testimonial. I have noticed an increase in the amount of companies registered for the Leaders Challenge. Could this be showing that employers are recognizing the benefits for making it easier for employees to bike to work? People that use a bicycle instead of a car are proven to have better focus on the job, harmful vehicle emissions are reduced, and the cyclist enjoys better health. When people cycle to work, everyone wins.

Mississauga cyclists were out in perfect sunshine weather for this year’s Bike to Work inaugural pancake breakfast at City Hall. Four police officers from the Peel’s cycling division were on hand to escort the planned ride from Riverwood Park to City Centre. Suddenly all the cyclists were strictly obeying the traffic signs like the ones saying “cyclists dismount and walk across intersection.”
We were treated at the pancake breakfast (in addition to pancakes) to a demonstration on how to load bikes onto the Mississauga Transit bus bike racks. Check out the video.[youtube 0Gt2wYCwl7Y]

Smart Commute Mississauga is encouraging all cyclists to participate in the Bike Friday campaign by riding to work on the last Friday of each month.
