Mayor McCallion Bikes to Work

I felt I should set an example, and every time we reconstruct a road we put a bicycle path along it

Mississauga Mayor McCallion ready to bike

On Sept. 22, 2008, the “MAYOR1″ vehicle looked a little different. As part of International Car Free Day, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion rode her bike to City Hall from Streetsville.

Some members of the Cycling Committee and others joined the Mayor on her epic 7km ride which included a climb up the new bike-friendly Confederation Bridge. It’s said that bike races are won and lost on the hills. In her true winning style, Mayor McCallion attacked the climb with a burst of positive energy. At the other end of the Confederation Bridge, the Mayor and her “peloton” were featured in City News’ Breakfast Television live coverage of the event. In the interview, Mayor McCallion stated, “I felt I should set an example, and every time we reconstruct a road we put a bicycle path along it.”
