Here are some bike rides that you may enjoy in the City of Mississauga. These rides are at your own risk and the City of Missississauga or the Mississauga Cycling Advisiory Committee assumes no liability on your behalf in the event that you try one of these rides. Please refer to the Cycling Map for locations.

East Central Mississauga -
Etobicoke Creek, Burnhamthorpe and Applewood Trails

The Applewood Trail which originally went from Eastgate Parkway to Burnhamthorpe Rd was extended to Bloor St. in 2002 and was extended south from Bloor St to Queen Frederica Dr in 2003.

The Applewood Trail also connects to the Burnhamthorpe Trail, which heads east to the Etobicoke Creek Trail and the Lorrir Mitoff Trail, but it also connects to a new trail called the Charlie Martin Trail. This trail is named after a local World War II war veteran. The trail is a road route which takes you from the middle of Applewood Hills Park through quiet side streets to the Etobicoke Creek Trail.

The Etobicoke Creek Trail has been established from Willow Creek Park to Garnetwood Park.

By using these three trails along with the Burnhamthorpe Trail all in Ward 3, you will enjoy the many parks that are in the area.

Erin Mills Area -
Glen Erin Trail & Sawmill Valley Trail Loop

Start at Collegeway just west of Mississauga Road. Collegeway is one block north of Dundas. The entrance to the Glen Erin Trail is on the south side of Collegeway just west of the bridge over the Sawmill Creek.

  1. Follow the Glen Erin Trail as it meanders through the many parks in Erin Mills.
  2. North of Burnhamthorpe, cross Folkway and continue to a major trail node.
  3. Take the branch to the right into Pheasant Run Park.
  4. Cross under Glen Erin Drive.
  5. Follow the trail east until it meet the Burnhamthorpe Trail just west of Erin Mills Parkway.
  6. Take the Burnhamthorpe Trail east crossing under Erin Mills Parkway to Sawmill Valley Drive.
  7. Go north on Sawmill Valley for a short distance and turn left onto a trail. This is the Sawmill Valley Trail which goes underneath Burnhamthorpe and continues south to Collegway which is where you started.

Most of this route consists of pleasant park pathways and generally uses underpasses to cross major roads. However, there are a few road crossings. Use caution at these. The route is almost entirely off-road, except for the short stretch on Sawmill Valley Drive and the road crossings. The Sawmill Valley trail south of Burnhamthorpe has a gravel surface and sections of this may be treacherous for road bikes with skinny tires or roller blades. However, Mountain Bikes with wide tires should have no problem.
